When people talk about Newcastle cafes, they usually mean the beach suburbs. Merewether this, Newcastle East that. Fair enough, Newcastle's beaches are absolutely iconic.
Just 15 minutes west has something really special happening, Wallsend and our neighbouring suburbs are right at the heart of it, let's talk about why we love our little old suburb and why you should come visit!
Why Wallsend
Wallsend is proper local. It's one of Newcastle's oldest settlements, it has a main street and so much character, families who've been here for generations, new young couples and buying here, tradies at 6am and plenty of prams by 9. When we opened our doors on Cowper St in 2018, we fell in love with exactly that mix.
A cafe out here isn't a pit stop. It's where people do life. We've watched first dates, job interviews, retirement celebrations and a thousand school and soccer runs from behind the machine.
What coffee in Wallsend looks like
We punch way above our weight. The west doesn't put up with average coffee just because it's local. We pour award winning Glee beans, dial in every morning, and run seasonal specials that get a bit silly in the best way (lavender cold foam, we're looking at you) and our neighbours do the same!
Make a morning of it
Grab a coffee, wander the op shops, find a park, support a local business or three. Wallsend rewards people who slow down a bit. That's kind of the whole point of the place.
Come find us at Wildflower, 71 Cowper St. First visit? Tell us. We love a first timer.
