A Newcastle Cafe Worth the Drive

Wildflower is a family-run cafe in Wallsend, a suburb of Newcastle, NSW. Jack and Ri Bingham started it in 2018 (they built the place in 100 days, which is a story for another day) and we've been pouring coffee and feeding the community ever since.

We're a few minutes off the M1 if you're driving in from Sydney or the Central Coast, and a quick run from the CBD if you're already in Newcastle.

What you'll get

Specialty coffee from Glee Coffee, milk from Little Big Dairy Co, a tight breakfast and brunch menu (toasties, bagels, banana bread, and a constantly changing pastry case), and seasonal drinks that we'd be too excited to keep to ourselves (lavender cold foam, pine lime soda, that sort of energy).

The menu stays small because we'd rather do a few things really well than try to do everything alright.

A real community cafe

We're regulars in our own cafe. So is half of Wallsend. Mums with prams, tradies on a smoko, friends catching up, solo coffee drinkers reading their book (we love you).

We run a monthly event called Hot Shots on the last Saturday of every month. Live music, market stalls, and a different rotating special each time. The whole front of the cafe turns into something else. Worth checking the dates before you visit.

The details

71 Cowper Street, Wallsend NSW 2287

Monday to Saturday, 6am to 12:30pm

Closed Sunday

Free parking on the street and out the back, wheelchair access, dog friendly, kids welcome (we serve babycinos in a custom Wildflower babycino cup, which is a small thing that makes a big difference apparently).

We're also a streetwear brand. The shop is right next door. Both are part of Wildflower, both have the same energy.
