More people than ever are brewing great coffee at home, which we love. But supermarket beans are usually months old before they hit your grinder. Here's how to do better in Newcastle.
What to look for
A roast date on the bag (not a best before, an actual roast date). A local roaster. Whole beans over pre-ground if you have a grinder, because coffee starts losing its magic fast once it's ground.
How to store them
Airtight, dark, room temperature. A kitchen cupboard is perfect.
Not the fridge or freezer, no matter what the internet says. Buy amounts you'll finish (ideally) in a few weeks and your last cup will taste like your first.
Our beans: Rise & Shine
Rise & Shine is our own special Wildflower blend, made with Glee Coffee, the 2025 Golden Bean champions from just up the road. It's the exact coffee we pour in the cafe every day. Smooth, sweet, works beautifully black or with milk.
It's coffee for the dreamers and the world changers (it says so right on the bag).
Where to get it
Grab a bag over the counter at 71 Cowper St, or order online in 250g and 1kg bags and we'll post it anywhere in Australia. And if you're the type who runs out at the worst possible moment, keep an eye out. We're working on something that means you never will again.
