If you've grabbed a coffee from us, you've had Glee. They've been our coffee partner since pretty much day one and we have no plans to ever change that.
This post is for the people who ask "who roasts your beans?" (we get this all the time and we love the question).
Who Glee Coffee actually is
Glee Coffee Roasters are based about 40 minutes down the road from us. They're a small roastery run by people who care a stupid amount about coffee, but more importantly, they care about the people behind the coffee.
Most of the mills they source from are independently owned by families or local co-operatives. They know the farmers by name. The beans rotate seasonally because, like fruit, coffee tastes different depending on when and where it was picked. That's not a marketing line, that's just how good coffee works.
Why we picked them
When we were getting Wildflower off the ground in 2018, we had a few roasters to choose from. We picked Glee because they were a small business, they were close to us, and when we sat down with them they cared more about getting the coffee right than getting our business.
That set the tone. We were never going to be a brand that puts beans in front of customers without knowing exactly where those beans came from. Glee made that easy from the start.
What goes into every cup
Our baristas dial in our espresso every morning to get the shot tasting the way it should. The recipe shifts subtly as the beans age over the week, because that's what specialty coffee actually requires. We run Little Big Dairy Co milk through a Milk Juggler to keep waste down (more on that another day). We do a 50 cent discount when you bring your own cup, because the easiest way to reduce takeaway waste is to make it cheaper to skip the takeaway cup.
If you've never tasted the difference between Glee and a generic supermarket bag, come in. We'll happily talk you through whatever's in our grinder today.
Try it at home
If you want to brew Glee at home, we sell their Rise & Shine 1kg bags in the cafe and online. Same beans we pour every day.
Glee are the kind of small business that deserves to grow, and we're proud to be one of the cafes that helps them do that.
